SunlightSolar panels capture sunlight and convert it to DC electricity — more sun means more water.
Solar ArrayA string of PV modules sized to the pump (typically 1.3–1.5× the pump power).
MPPT ControllerTracks the panels’ maximum power point (>99%) and drives the motor with a sine-wave FOC inverter.
Solar PumpA permanent-magnet brushless pump lifts water from the borehole, river or tank.
WaterWater flows to a storage tank, field or trough — storing water, not costly batteries.

A solar water pump system converts sunlight into water in real time — the more sun, the more water — and stores the water in a tank rather than in batteries.

The system

Four core components

01

Solar panels (PV array)

Convert sunlight to DC power. Sized to the pump — Aquasolar lists the recommended array (Wp) for every model. No batteries are needed: the system runs whenever the sun shines and stores water instead of electricity.

02

MPPT pump controller / inverter

The brain of the system. It maximises energy harvest (MPPT >99%), converts DC to a clean sine wave, soft-starts the motor and protects against dry-run, over/under-voltage, overload and reverse phase. A local LED panel shows voltage, current, power and speed.

03

Solar pump & motor

A permanent-magnet (PMSM) brushless motor with up to 92% efficiency drives the pump end — screw, impeller or centrifugal depending on the duty. IP68 sealed for submersible use, Class F insulation, stainless or engineered-plastic wet parts by water quality.

04

Water storage

A simple elevated tank stores the day’s water for use any time — far cheaper and longer-lived than battery storage, and maintenance-free.

Choosing a system

DC or AC/DC hybrid?

DC Solar Pump

Runs purely on solar power — the simplest, most economical system. Ideal where daytime pumping is enough: irrigation, livestock, off-grid supply.

  • Lowest system cost
  • No grid or fuel needed
  • 2″–6″, 150–3,000 W
DC pumps

AC/DC Hybrid Solar Pump

Runs on solar and automatically switches to grid or generator (220 V AC) when the sun is weak — for water supply that cannot stop, day or night.

  • 24/7 water availability
  • Solar-first, grid-backup
  • Same efficient PM motor
AC/DC pumps
Sizing

How to size your pump & panels

1 · Total head

Vertical lift from water level to the outlet, plus pipe friction — measured in metres (m).

2 · Daily flow

Your daily water need ÷ peak sun-hours (≈6) = the flow rate the pump must deliver (m³/h).

3 · Solar array

Size the PV array to ≈1.3–1.5× the pump power (Wp). Every Aquasolar model lists its recommended array.

Why solar pumping

The advantages

No grid, no fuel

Free solar energy — zero electricity bills and no diesel to buy or haul.

No batteries

Store water in a tank, not costly batteries — lower cost, longer life.

Low maintenance

Brushless motor + full protection means years of reliable, hands-off operation.

Clean & quiet

Zero emissions and near-silent — ideal for farms, homes and remote communities.

الأسئلة الشائعة

Common questions

Does a solar water pump need batteries?

No. A solar pump runs directly off the PV array during daylight and stores water in a tank instead of storing electricity in batteries. This lowers cost and eliminates battery replacement.

What is the difference between a DC and an AC/DC (hybrid) solar pump?

A DC pump runs only on solar power — simplest and lowest cost. An AC/DC hybrid pump runs on solar and can automatically switch to grid or generator power (220 V AC) when sunlight is insufficient, giving 24/7 availability.

How do I size a solar water pump?

Match the pump to your total head (vertical lift + friction, in metres) and required daily flow (divide daily water need by your peak sun-hours, about 6). Then add the recommended PV array. Our free Pump Selector does this in seconds; engineers confirm against the full performance curve.

How deep can a solar submersible pump go?

Aquasolar submersible pumps deliver up to 260 m of head and can be immersed up to 150 m deep, covering most boreholes and deep wells.

How long do solar water pumps last?

With a brushless permanent-magnet motor, no batteries and full electronic protection, a quality solar pump typically runs for many years with minimal maintenance. Aquasolar backs its pumps with a 2-year warranty (3 years on the stainless flagship lines).
