Egypt’s Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) reviewed ways to deepen cooperation on water efficiency, irrigation modernization and renewable energy on 10 October 2026.
What the cooperation covers
The meeting reviewed implementation of a joint 2025–2027 work programme. The reported areas include practical work on water-saving irrigation, renewable-energy applications, agricultural and water productivity, soil-salinity management and farmer-support capacity.
The programme also includes the “Strengthening Food Security in Egypt” project, carried out with the Government of Japan. The project links climate adaptation and rural livelihoods with solar-powered irrigation, digital tools and improved land management.
Why it matters for solar-water projects
The announcement is a policy and cooperation signal rather than a claim that a specific commercial pump has been selected. It shows how solar irrigation is being discussed alongside water productivity, salinity and extension services instead of as a stand-alone power substitution.
Aquasolar did not participate in this external cooperation. For project teams, the practical lesson is to evaluate the water source, salinity, irrigation method, storage and operating schedule together before choosing a pump, controller or PV array.
