A pure DC solar pump runs directly from the PV array through an MPPT controller. It is simple, efficient and ideal where daytime pumping into a storage tank is all you need — which covers most irrigation and livestock projects.
An AC/DC hybrid pump adds the ability to switch to grid or generator power when solar is unavailable. That matters for applications that cannot wait for sunshine — domestic supply, a guesthouse, a clinic — or where a buffer against cloudy spells is worth the extra hardware.
The rule of thumb: if you can store water by day, choose DC for the best value; if you need water on demand around the clock, choose AC/DC hybrid.
